Daily work in the dental practice involves a time factor for hygienic working processes which must not be underestimated. After all, the health of the patient, dentist and team is always, top priority. As a result of the associated, hygienically required directives, recommendations and regulations, it is pleasing to see that validated sterilization and thermal disinfection procedures are increasingly becoming the standard in dental practices.

In contrast, however, the preparation of dental handpieces for sterilization is a different case, as this is often still performed by hand. The new Assistina from the dental product manufacturer W&H offers a helping hand. Successfully established on the market for more than 20 years, the device now has a new threefold operating mode and allows even more effective and cost-efficient, validated cleaning and care of handpieces.

Cleaning of Instruments Assistina 3X3

Small device, big effect

The new Assistina 3x3 cleans and maintains up to three handpieces at the same time. The cycle is split into three work stages, which build on one another systematically.

The automated cleaning and maintenance process begins as soon as the handpieces are inserted and the start button pressed. The first step is the internal cleaning (1). In this stage, the spray channels and gearing components are cleaned with the special cleaning solution. This promotes the complete functioning of the handpieces and extends the working life.

It is followed by a sequence with compressed air to remove cleaning residue (2).

Then the cleaning solution is precisely sprayed onto the exterior of each handpiece. After a short exposure time compressed air is applied again, followed by precise lubrication (3) of the gearing components. This cycle removes all organic deposits and ensures proper preparation for the subsequent sterilization.

The complete process at a glance

In smart resource management, time is money – and that applies in dental surgeries too. With Assistina it is possible to clean and maintain up to three handpieces at the same time in just six minutes. This not only reduces the staff time required – allowing better care of the patients – but also reduces oil consumption more than anything. After all, the alternative to automated handpiece maintenance is manual preparation with an oil spray can. The main disadvantage of this method is the large quantity of oil which remains in the handpiece, which thus poses a risk of contaminating the treatment area. Assistina, in contrast, is easy to use, works automatically, safely and cost-efficiently and greatly reduces oil consumption, meaning that the investment price soon pays for itself. The saving of repair and service costs is another benefit of Assistina, as regular cleaning and maintenance greatly extends the service life of each handpiece. The device is also self-explanatory, meaning that time need not be wasted unnecessarily on training and instruction sessions.

Conclusion

Assistina is the cost-efficient and smart alternative to the manual cleaning and maintenance of precision dental handpieces. Its contemporary, purist design means it can be easily integrated in existing room environments and the work stages are intuitive and easy to learn.
